There is something revealing about how easily people are shaken today.

A harsh comment. A disagreement. A post that doesn’t get liked. Small things feel heavy. But Scripture gives a very different picture of what it means to follow Christ. Jesus said, “Blessed are you when people insult you… rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven” (Matthew 5:11–12). Peter wrote that suffering for Christ is part of the calling.

That kind of perspective feels distant in a culture that avoids discomfort at all costs.

And that’s where the deeper issue begins.

When Fear Replaces Truth

A growing problem today is not just disagreement. It’s distortion.

People take real pain, real experiences, even real injustice, and begin to expand it beyond what is true. One moment becomes a pattern. One story becomes a system. One experience becomes everyone’s intent.

That’s where fear takes over.

When fear drives thinking, reason shuts down. Everything starts to look like a threat. Conversations turn into accusations. Groups get labeled. Motives get assumed.

This isn’t new. It’s what happens when truth is replaced with perception.

And it doesn’t belong to one side. It shows up anywhere people stop thinking clearly and start reacting emotionally.

The result is the same every time. Anxiety. Division. Cynicism.

Scripture calls this out in a different way. “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7).

A sound mind matters. Without it, everything becomes unstable.

The Danger of Overgeneralizing

There is a simple mistake underneath much of the confusion today.

Overgeneralization.

Seeing one thing and applying it to everything.

It’s the root of prejudice. It’s also the root of a lot of modern thinking. Social media fuels it. Headlines amplify it. People repeat it.

But it’s not truth.

Truth requires patience. It requires context. It requires restraint.

Without that, people begin to live as if the world is constantly against them. And when that happens, fear becomes normal.

That is not how we are called to live.

A Different Kind of Faith: The Example of Patrick

The contrast becomes clear when looking at someone like Patrick.

Not the cultural version. The real man.

He was taken as a slave. Lived in hardship. Found God in isolation. Escaped. Then chose to go back to the very place he suffered to preach the gospel.

He expected danger. He expected rejection. He expected suffering.

And he went anyway.

That kind of faith is not built on comfort. It’s built on conviction.

Patrick didn’t see the world through fear. He saw it through purpose.

That changes everything.

What About the Bible?

Some claim that differences in the Bible mean it cannot be trusted.

But that assumes something that isn’t true. That every account must be identical to be reliable.

That’s not how real testimony works.

Different witnesses focus on different details. That doesn’t mean the event didn’t happen. It means people saw it from different angles.

What matters is the core.

Every Gospel account agrees on this. Jesus died. Jesus rose. The tomb was empty.

That is the center. And it does not change.

Love Is Not Approval

Another confusion today is the idea that love means agreement.

It doesn’t.

Love tells the truth.

If someone is walking toward harm, love does not stay silent. Love speaks. Not harshly. Not self-righteously. But honestly.

Scripture is clear. Love does not rejoice in wrongdoing (1 Corinthians 13:6).

That applies to people. It applies to nations. It applies to all of us.

No one is above correction. No one is without fault.

A Guide for a New Believer

When you first come to Christ, many traditions and practices can feel confusing. You may see people observing Lent, receiving ashes on their foreheads, or speaking about a forty-day spiritual journey before Easter. The language sounds serious and reverent. It often includes Bible verses about repentance, prayer, and fasting.

So what should a new believer think?

Let’s walk through this carefully and slowly.

What Is Lent?

Lent is a forty-day season leading up to Easter. It is traditionally a time of reflection, fasting, repentance, and preparation to remember Christ’s death and resurrection.

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent in many churches. On that day, ashes are placed on the forehead as a symbol of mortality and repentance.

The themes themselves are biblical.

Repentance is biblical.
Fasting is biblical.
Prayer is biblical.
Humility is biblical.

But here is the key question:

Did Jesus or the apostles command believers to observe Lent?

The answer is no.

What the Bible Actually Commands

1. Repentance

Joel 2:12–13 says:

“Yet even now,” declares the Lord,
“return to Me with all your heart,
with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning;
and rend your hearts and not your garments.”

Notice something important. God says, “Rend your hearts, not your garments.” He is concerned with inward repentance, not outward ritual.

In the New Testament, repentance is not seasonal. It is ongoing.

1 John 1:9 says:

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

That is daily living. Not a once-a-year observance.

2. Fasting

Jesus said in Matthew 6:16–18:

“And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites… that their fasting may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret.”

Jesus assumes believers will fast. But He warns against outward religious display.

That is important when we consider visible ash markings or public fasting seasons. The danger is not that fasting is wrong. The danger is when fasting becomes external, structured, and visibly symbolic in a way that could drift toward what Jesus warned about.

3. Special Days and Religious Calendars

Paul addresses religious observances directly in Colossians 2:16–23:

“Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ.”

He continues:

“Why, as if you were still alive in the world, do you submit to regulations—‘Do not handle, Do not taste, Do not touch’… according to human precepts and teachings? These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in promoting self-made religion… but they are of no value in stopping the indulgence of the flesh.”

Paul warns against man-made religious systems that appear spiritual but are not commanded by Christ.

Then in Romans 14:5 he says:

“One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind.”

That means this:

Lent is not required.
You are not spiritually deficient if you do not observe it.
And no church has authority to bind your conscience where Scripture does not.

The Cross Is Not Seasonal

Jesus said in Luke 9:23:

“If anyone would come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me.”

Daily.

The Christian life is not built around spiritual seasons. It is built around daily surrender to Christ.

You do not move toward the cross once a year. You live at the cross every day.

Why We Must Be Careful with Roman Catholic Traditions

Now we need to address something carefully and honestly.

Lent and Ash Wednesday are strongly associated with Roman Catholic tradition. As believers who hold to Scripture alone as our final authority, we must examine doctrine by the Word of God.

This is not about attacking people. It is about guarding the gospel.

1. Salvation: Grace Alone or Grace Plus Works?

The Bible teaches clearly:

Ephesians 2:8–9:

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”

Salvation is a gift. Not earned. Not maintained by rituals. Not strengthened by penance.

Good works follow salvation (Ephesians 2:10), but they do not cause it.

Many Catholic teachings blend faith and works within the sacramental system in a way that Protestants believe compromises the sufficiency of Christ’s finished work.

Jesus said on the cross:

“It is finished.” (John 19:30)

Finished means complete.

2. Mary and the Saints

Catholics speak of “veneration,” not worship, when it comes to Mary and the saints. However, prayers directed to Mary or departed saints raise serious biblical concerns.

1 Timothy 2:5 says:

“For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”

One mediator.

Not Mary. Not saints. Christ alone.

When prayer is directed toward anyone other than God, even with good intentions, it crosses into dangerous territory.

3. Purgatory

The idea of purgatory — a place where souls are purified after death — is not found in Scripture.

Hebrews 9:27 says:

“It is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment.”

There is no intermediate purification process described in the New Testament for believers.

Romans 8:1 says:

“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

Christ’s blood fully cleanses. It does not partially cleanse.

4. Tithes and Financial Obligation

In the Old Testament, Israel was commanded to tithe under the Mosaic Law.

In the New Testament, giving is described differently.

2 Corinthians 9:7 says:

“Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

New Covenant giving is voluntary and joyful. Not enforced as a law tied to salvation or spiritual standing.

Why Scripture Must Be Our Anchor

As a new believer, this is the foundation you must hold tightly:

The Bible is the final authority.
Jesus is the only mediator.
Salvation is by grace alone through faith alone.
Christ’s work on the cross is complete.

Church history can contain helpful practices. But traditions must always be tested against Scripture.

Acts 17:11 praises the Bereans because:

“They received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.”

That is your model.

Final Word

If you are not convicted to observe Lent, you are not resisting God.

If you are walking in the Spirit, repenting daily, trusting Christ fully, and clinging to Scripture, you are not lacking anything.

The Christian life is not built on ashes.

It is built on the finished work of Jesus Christ.

And that work is sufficient.

One Human Family and Modern Genetics

The Bible states plainly in Acts 17:26 that God “has made from one blood every nation of men.” Scripture presents humanity as one family, not separate origins.

Modern genetics strongly supports human unity.

Population genetics shows that all humans share about 99.9 percent of their DNA. The genetic differences between ethnic groups are small compared to what we share. In fact, there is often more genetic variation within a single population than between populations. Biologists do not classify human “races” as separate biological subspecies because the genetic overlap is so strong.

Mitochondrial DNA studies show that all living humans trace maternal ancestry back to a single woman (often called “mitochondrial Eve” in scientific literature). Likewise, Y-chromosome studies trace paternal lines back to a single man (“Y-chromosome Adam”). These terms do not prove the Genesis timeline, but they do confirm that humanity shares common ancestry.

Someone might assume that diversity in skin color or facial features disproves a shared beginning. In reality, those traits are controlled by a very small portion of the genome. For example, skin pigmentation differences are largely influenced by variations in melanin production controlled by a limited number of genes. Small genetic differences can create noticeable visual diversity without implying separate origins.

In other words, visible diversity does not contradict unity. It fits with recombination and shared ancestry.

Genetic Variation From a Small Starting Population

Another concern people raise is whether two individuals could realistically produce the diversity we see today.

From a scientific standpoint, genetic recombination alone generates massive variation. Every generation reshuffles DNA. Two parents can produce children who differ widely in traits because of how genes combine.

Additionally, mutations occur at a measurable rate in human DNA. Most mutations are neutral. Some are harmful. A small number are beneficial in certain environments. Over thousands of years, these small changes accumulate and increase variation within humanity.

Population bottlenecks also occur in history. Genetic research shows that the human population experienced severe reductions at various points in the past, yet recovered and diversified afterward. That principle aligns with the biblical account of humanity multiplying again from Noah’s family after the flood.

So someone might ask whether science allows for humanity to expand from a very small group. The answer is yes. Genetics does not forbid that possibility. It demonstrates that diversity can expand over generations from limited starting populations through recombination and mutation.

Why Incest Was Present Early and Forbidden Later

The biological concern with incest today is well understood. Harmful recessive mutations accumulate in the genome over generations. When close relatives reproduce, the chance of pairing the same harmful mutation increases, raising the likelihood of genetic disorders.

This is established in medical genetics.

If Adam and Eve were created without corruption, as Genesis 1:31 describes creation as “very good,” their genomes would not have contained the heavy load of harmful recessive mutations present in modern populations. Early sibling marriages would not have carried the same level of biological risk.

Over thousands of years, mutation load increases. That makes close-relative marriage progressively more dangerous.

By the time of Moses, humanity had spread widely. In Leviticus 18, God clearly forbids incest. At that stage, both moral order and biological reality aligned. There was no necessity for close-relative unions, and the risks were higher.

Someone might ask whether this means God changed His moral standard. Scripture presents it differently. The earliest generations faced a unique starting condition. Once humanity expanded, the prohibition was clearly established. The Bible records both stages openly.

Bringing It Together

Science affirms several things that align with Scripture:

Humanity is one genetically unified family.
Humans share overwhelming DNA similarity.
Visible diversity arises from small genetic variation.
Mutations accumulate over generations.
Close-relative marriage increases genetic risk when mutation load is high.
Small populations can expand and diversify over time.
Scripture affirms:
Humanity began from one pair (Genesis 1–2).
All nations come from one blood (Acts 17:26).
Humanity multiplied from a single family after the flood (Genesis 9–10).
Incest was later prohibited (Leviticus 18).

The biblical claim is not that we are genetically identical. It is that we are genealogically related.

When carefully examined, the unity of humanity in Scripture and the unity of humanity in genetics do not stand in opposition. They converge on a central truth: the human race is one family.

And the gospel rests on that reality. If we share one origin and one fallen nature, then the offer of redemption through Christ is equally universal. One family. One problem. One Savior.

What It Is, What It Does, and Why It Matters

Baptism is not a church ritual created by tradition. It is a command given by the Lord Jesus Christ.

After His resurrection, Jesus said,

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19).

Baptism belongs to discipleship. It is not an optional add-on. It is part of following Him.

Let’s walk through what it is, what it does, and why it matters.

What Baptism Is

Baptism is an outward act that publicly identifies a believer with Jesus Christ .

The word “baptize” means to immerse or dip. In Scripture, baptism is connected to water and repentance.

When Peter preached at Pentecost, the people were cut to the heart and asked what they should do. He answered:

“Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins” (Acts 2:38).

Baptism is for those who have repented and believed.

It is a declaration:
“I belong to Christ.”

Paul explains its meaning clearly:

“We were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life” (Romans 6:4).

Going under the water represents burial.

Coming up represents resurrection.

It is a picture of the Gospel.

What Baptism Does

Baptism does not save you.

Salvation is by grace through faith alone.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith… not of works” (Ephesians 2:8–9).

The thief on the cross was not baptized, yet Jesus said, “Today you will be with Me in Paradise” (Luke 23:43).

So what does baptism do?

It publicly marks you as belonging to Christ.

It is an act of obedience.
It strengthens faith.
It testifies to others.

Peter writes:

“Baptism… now saves us—not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God” (1 Peter 3:21).

Notice the clarification. It is not about washing dirt from the body. It is the appeal of a clean conscience before God.

It is obedience flowing from faith.

Why Baptism Is Important

Jesus Himself was baptized.

“Then Jesus came… to be baptized by him” (Matthew 3:13).

He had no sin to repent of. Yet He did it “to fulfill all righteousness.”

If the sinless Son of God stepped into the water in obedience, how much more should we?

Baptism is important because:

It is commanded.

It is connected to repentance.
It marks entry into visible fellowship with believers.

It strengthens your public confession.

Jesus said:

“Whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father” (Matthew 10:32).

Baptism is that confession in action.

Who Should Be Baptized?

Those who believe the Gospel.

In the New Testament, belief always precedes baptism.

“If you believe with all your heart, you may” (Acts 8:37).

Infants are never commanded to be baptized in Scripture. Baptism follows repentance and faith.

If you have trusted Christ, you should be baptized.

If you were baptized before you believed, you were wet—but not obedient in the biblical sense. Baptism follows faith.

How and When to Be Baptized

In Scripture, baptism happened quickly after belief.

The Ethiopian eunuch believed and said:

“See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized?” (Acts 8:36).

There was no waiting period for spiritual perfection.

You do not get baptized because you are worthy.

You get baptized because Christ is worthy.

Find a biblically faithful church that preaches the Gospel clearly. Speak with a pastor or elder. Share your testimony. Request baptism.

Baptism is done in water, in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19).

It is a joyful act, not a fearful one.

What To Do After Baptism

Baptism is not the finish line. It is the beginning of obedient discipleship.

After baptism :

Continue in Scripture.

Join yourself to a local church.
Grow in prayer.
Walk in repentance.
Serve others.

The early believers “continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship” (Acts 2:42).

That is the pattern.

You will not be perfect. You will still struggle. But you now walk in newness of life (Romans 6:4).

When you stumble, you confess and rise again. Christ is faithful.

Encouragement

If you are hesitant because of fear, remember this: baptism does not make you holy. Christ does.

If you are hesitant because you feel unworthy, that is the very reason you need Him.

If you have believed but delayed obedience, do not harden your heart. There is no spiritual advantage in postponing what Christ commanded.

Baptism is not about performance.
It is about allegiance.

It is standing publicly and saying, “Jesus is Lord.”

And heaven is not ashamed of that confession.

If you belong to Him, step into the water with joy.

Conversion

Turning From Sin and Turning to Christ

Regeneration is God’s work within. Conversion is the sinner’s response without.

When the Spirit gives new life, something changes. The heart that was once hard becomes responsive. The will that once resisted now turns. The Bible calls this turning

conversion .

Conversion is not merely agreeing with facts. It is not signing up for religion. It is a decisive turning from sin and turning toward Christ.

1. Conversion Has Two Sides: Repentance and Faith

Scripture consistently presents conversion as having two inseparable parts:

Repentance (turning from sin)
Faith (trusting in Christ)

When Peter preached at Pentecost, the people were cut to the heart. They asked what to do. Peter answered plainly:

“Repent and be baptized… for the forgiveness of your sins” (Acts 2:38).

Paul summarized his ministry this way:

“Testifying… of repentance toward God and of faith in our Lord Jesus Christ” (Acts 20:21).

Repentance and faith are not two separate events. They are two sides of the same turning. To turn to Christ is to turn from sin. To cling to sin is to reject Christ.

2. Repentance: A Change of Mind and Direction

Repentance is more than feeling bad.

It involves:

Conviction of sin
A change of mind about God
A new direction of life

Second Corinthians 7:10 speaks of “godly grief” that leads to repentance. This is not shame that hides. It is sorrow that runs toward mercy.

Repentance does not mean perfection. It means a new posture. Sin is no longer defended. It is confessed.

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us” (1 John 1:9).

3. Faith: Trusting Christ Alone

Faith is not mere belief that Jesus existed. It is personal trust.

John writes, “To all who did receive Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12).

Faith rests in Christ’s finished work:

His life
His death
His resurrection

It abandons self-reliance. It leans fully on Him.

Romans 10:9 says if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

That is conversion.

4. Conversion Is Real and Visible

Conversion is inward first, but it does not remain invisible.

John the Baptist said, “Bear fruit in keeping with repentance” (Matthew 3:8).

When Zacchaeus encountered Christ, he immediately began making restitution (Luke 19:8–9). When Paul was converted, his life direction changed completely (Acts 9).

True conversion produces fruit. Not flawless performance. Not instant maturity. But a new direction.

Jesus said, “By their fruits you will know them” (Matthew 7:16).

5. God’s Grace and Human Responsibility

Conversion holds two truths together.

God gives life.

The sinner turns and believes.

Scripture commands repentance (Acts 17:30). Scripture promises that whoever believes will be saved (John 3:16). When someone responds, it is real. It is voluntary. It is personal.

And yet, as we have seen, the power behind it is God’s grace.

No one will stand before God and say, “I saved myself.”
And no one will be able to say, “I wanted Christ but was prevented.”

The gospel invitation is sincere.

Conclusion

Conversion is the visible evidence of new birth.

It is the moment when a sinner stops running and starts following. When rebellion gives way to surrender.

When trust shifts from self to Savior.

If there has never been repentance, there has never been conversion.
If there has never been faith, there has never been salvation.

But where there is turning and trusting, there is mercy.

“Whoever comes to Me I will never cast out” (John 6:37).

Regeneration

From Death to Life

Before anyone believes, repents, or follows Christ, something deeper must happen.

The Bible calls it being “born again.”

Regeneration is not self-improvement. It is not moral reform. It is not religious effort. It is the supernatural work of the Holy Spirit giving spiritual life to someone who was spiritually dead.

Jesus did not describe salvation as a second chance. He described it as a new birth.

1. The Problem: Spiritual Death

Scripture does not say we were spiritually sick. It says we were dead.

“You were dead in your trespasses and sins” (Ephesians 2:1).

Dead people do not revive themselves. They do not cooperate in resuscitation. They require life from outside themselves.

Romans 8:7 says the natural mind “does not submit to God; indeed, it cannot.” This is not weakness. It is inability.

This is why regeneration is necessary.

2. Jesus and the New Birth

In John 3, Jesus tells Nicodemus:

“Unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:3).

Notice the order. One must be born again to see. New birth precedes spiritual sight.

Jesus compares it to the wind:

“The wind blows where it wishes… So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit” (John 3:8).

Regeneration is the sovereign work of the Spirit. It is not mechanical. It is not forced. It is living, personal, and powerful.

3. What Regeneration Does

Regeneration changes the heart.

“I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you” (Ezekiel 36:26).

This promise is fulfilled in Christ. The Spirit removes the heart of stone and gives a heart that desires God.

This does not mean believers become perfect overnight. But it does mean something fundamental changes:

New affections
New desires
New awareness of sin
New hunger for Christ

Second Corinthians 5:17 says, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.”

That is regeneration.

4. Regeneration and Faith

Here is where theology often wrestles.

Does faith cause new birth, or does new birth produce faith?

John writes, “Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God” (1 John 5:1). The grammar suggests the new birth is the source of true belief.

When God opens the heart, faith follows.

This does not remove responsibility. The gospel still commands repentance and belief (Acts 2:38; 17:30). But when someone truly comes to Christ, Scripture ultimately gives credit to God’s life-giving work.

Salvation is “not of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God” (John 1:13).

5. Why Regeneration Matters

Without regeneration, Christianity becomes behavior management.

With regeneration, Christianity becomes life transformation.

It humbles us. No one can boast in their spiritual insight or moral decision. If we believe, it is because God gave us life.

It also gives hope in evangelism. No one is beyond the Spirit’s power. The same God who said, “Let there be light,” can shine in the darkest heart (2 Corinthians 4:6).

Conclusion

Regeneration is the quiet miracle at the center of salvation.

No fireworks. No headlines. Just a dead heart made alive.

If you love Christ, that love did not originate in you. It was awakened by the Spirit of God.

And if you do not yet know Him, ask Him for mercy. The God who raises the dead is still giving life.

The Call of God

Hearing His Voice and Responding in Faith

If election speaks of God’s eternal purpose, calling speaks of His action in time.

At some point in a person’s life, the gospel is heard. Christ is proclaimed. The invitation is extended. Scripture calls this the call of God . But the Bible shows us that not all calling is the same.

There is a general call that goes out to everyone. And there is what Scripture describes as a powerful, effective call — when God not only invites, but opens the heart to respond.

Let’s walk through it carefully.

1. The General Call: The Gospel for All

Jesus said, “Many are called, but few are chosen” (Matthew 22:14).

The gospel is proclaimed openly:

All have sinned (Romans 3:23).
The wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23).
Christ died for sinners (Romans 5:8).
Whoever believes in Him shall not perish (John 3:16).

This invitation is real. It is sincere. It is offered to all.

“Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden” (Matthew 11:28).

God commands all people everywhere to repent (Acts 17:30).

The general call reveals His mercy and leaves no one without witness. Yet Scripture also makes clear: not everyone who hears responds.

Why?

2. The Effective Call: When God Opens the Heart

There are moments in Scripture when the call goes deeper than sound waves and sermons.

In Acts 16:14, Lydia heard Paul preach. But the text says, “The Lord opened her heart to pay attention to what was said.”

Jesus said, “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him” (John 6:44).

This is what many theologians call effective calling . It is not coercion. It is not forcing the will. It is God removing blindness and granting sight.

Second Corinthians 4:6 describes it like creation itself:

“God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ has shone in our hearts.”

When God calls this way, the sinner comes willingly. The response is genuine repentance and real faith. But the power behind it is God’s grace.

3. Calling Leads to Conversion

The call of God does not end in awareness. It results in response.

When Peter preached at Pentecost, the people were “cut to the heart” (Acts 2:37). They asked what to do. Peter answered: “Repent and be baptized… for the forgiveness of your sins” (Acts 2:38).

Calling produces:

Repentance
Faith
New life

Romans 8:30 says, “Those whom He predestined He also called, and those whom He called He also justified.” The chain is deliberate. The call accomplishes what God intends.

4. Human Responsibility Remains

Some fear that if God calls effectively, human responsibility disappears.

Scripture does not allow that conclusion.

Jesus wept over Jerusalem saying, “How often would I have gathered your children together… and you were not willing” (Matthew 23:37).

The refusal of Christ is real. The blame for unbelief falls on the unbeliever (John 5:40). The gospel invitation is genuine.

The mystery is this:
God calls.
Man responds.

And when a heart truly turns, Scripture gives the glory to God.

Philippians 2:12–13 holds both truths together:

“Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you.”

5. Why Calling Matters

Calling brings assurance.

If salvation depended only on human willpower, none would endure. But Jesus says, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me” (John 10:27).

Those who truly belong to Christ are not self-made believers. They are called people.

Calling also fuels evangelism.

Paul stayed in Corinth because the Lord told him, “I have many in this city who are My people” (Acts 18:10). God’s sovereign call did not discourage preaching. It strengthened it.

We preach because God calls through preaching.

Conclusion

The call of God is not merely an invitation printed in red letters. It is the living voice of Christ reaching sinners through the gospel.

Some hear and walk away.
Some hear and are cut to the heart.

When that happens, it is not because the person was smarter or more spiritual. It is because God, in mercy, opened the heart.

If you are hearing His voice today, do not harden your heart (Hebrews 3:15).

Repent. Believe. Follow Christ.

And if you already belong to Him, remember this:
You are not self-called. You were summoned by grace.

A Scriptural Look at God's Election

One of the most mysterious and beautiful teachings in Scripture is that God chooses. From eternity past, before the foundations of the world, the Lord set His heart on a people to redeem, not because they earned it, but because of who He is — merciful, faithful, and glorious in grace.

This topic often raises questions:
Is God fair? What about those who never believe? Do our choices matter? The Bible never shies away from these questions — it doesn’t flatten God’s glory to spare our discomfort.

Let’s look at what Scripture teaches about election and how it shapes our understanding of salvation.

1. God Elects Because Salvation Is Grace

The heart of election is not a mysterious cosmic lottery. It’s God’s loving purpose to save sinners.

Paul writes in Ephesians that God “chose us in Him before the foundation of the world” (Eph. 1:4). This choice is not based on anything good in us — because there is nothing good in our hearts apart from Him (Rom. 3:10, 23). Salvation is grace alone.

In this way, election points us to God’s initiative , not our achievement. If salvation depended on our decision apart from God’s grace, no one would be saved (Rom. 5:6; Eph. 2:1–5). But Ephesians says God made us alive with Christ — while we were dead in sin.

2. God’s Choice Is Always Good and Just

A common concern is this:
If God chooses some, what about those who don’t believe? Isn’t that unfair?

Scripture answers this by reminding us that unbelief is never without responsibility. Jesus said men reject Him because they prefer darkness over light (John 3:19–20). Paul said the wrath of God is revealed against all ungodliness (Rom. 1:18). God holds people accountable for rejecting the gospel (Rom. 10:14–15).

Election doesn’t cause rebellion. Rather, it highlights God’s mercy on those who trust Him and His justice on those who persist in unbelief . Both are true because God is both merciful and just (Ex. 34:6–7).

3. God Desires All to Be Saved — and Commands Us to Tell Everyone

People sometimes wonder: if God only elects some, does He want others to be lost? The Bible says no.

Paul declares “God desires all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Tim. 2:4; cf. 2 Pet. 3:9). Jesus commands His followers to make disciples of all nations (Matt. 28:19–20). The gospel call goes out to everyone.

So we hold both truths together:

God elects by His sovereign grace.
God genuinely desires all to come to Him.

The mystery of how these two truths relate doesn’t cancel either one. Instead, it beckons us deeper into the riches of His wisdom.

4. Human Response Matters

Election does not negate human responsibility. Scripture calls people everywhere to repent and believe:

“Repent, and let every one of you be baptized … and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
(Acts 2:38)

Repentance and faith are real responses. They are not meritorious causes of salvation, but genuine human turning toward God. God commands all to repent (Acts 17:30–31). To reject His offer is to choose judgment (Matt. 25:46).

So God’s election does not make believers robots. It means God works in us — and through the call of the gospel — so that our trust in Christ is sincere (Phil. 2:12–13).

5. Election Brings Comfort to Believers

For those who have come to faith in Christ, election is not a puzzle to worry over — it’s a comfort.

Jesus said, “All that the Father gives Me will come to Me” (John 6:37). He also said no one can snatch His sheep out of His hand (John 10:28). If God has begun a good work in us, He will complete it (Phil. 1:6). That is good news.

Believers rest not in their ability to hold on, but in God’s promise to keep them — not because they are strong, but because He is.

6. The Gospel Call Isn’t Optional

God’s election doesn’t make evangelism unnecessary — precisely the opposite.

Paul urged the Corinthians to be reconciled to God (2 Cor. 5:20). He pleaded with sinners everywhere (Rom. 10:14–15). If a person never hears the good news, they cannot believe. That’s why the church exists: to spread the message of Christ, to the glory of God and the salvation of many.

In fact, Scripture says God uses the preaching of the gospel as the means by which the elect are drawn (Rom. 10:17; Acts 18:9–11). God’s choice and human proclamation work together in His plan.

Conclusion

Election is not a theological puzzle to intimidate — it’s a biblical truth that directs our hearts to God’s grace, justice, and love.

God elects His people because He is merciful. He judges sin because He is just. He calls all to repent because He loves all. And He preserves believers because His faithfulness never fails.

If you know Christ today, rest in His choosing. If you do not yet know Him, hear His voice calling you now. The gospel is for sinners.

Christ is for the weary. Come and trust Him.

A Clear Answer for Anyone Searching

What Is the Gospel?

The word gospel simply means “good news.” But good news only makes sense if you understand the problem first.

The Problem: Sin

The Bible teaches that God is holy.

Isaiah 6:3 says:

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts;
the whole earth is full of His glory.”

God is perfectly pure. Completely righteous. Without sin.

Now compare that to humanity.

Romans 3:23 says:

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

Sin is not just breaking rules. It is rebellion against God. It is choosing our way over His. It is pride, lust, anger, dishonesty, selfishness, idolatry.

And Scripture is clear:

Romans 6:23:

“For the wages of sin is death…”

Sin earns something. It earns judgment. Not just physical death, but spiritual separation from God.

That is the bad news.

The Solution: Jesus Christ

Here is where the good news begins.

Romans 5:8 says:

“But God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

God did not wait for you to clean yourself up.

He sent His Son.

Jesus Christ is not merely a teacher or prophet. He is God in the flesh.

John 1:1 says:

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

John 1:14 says:

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us…”

Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life. He obeyed the Father fully. He fulfilled the law completely.

Then He went to the cross.

On the cross, Jesus took the punishment sinners deserve.

Isaiah 53:5:

“But He was pierced for our transgressions;
He was crushed for our iniquities;
upon Him was the chastisement that brought us peace…”

He was not a victim of circumstance. He was a willing sacrifice.

John 19:30 records His final words:

“It is finished.”

The debt was paid in full.

The Resurrection

The gospel does not end with the cross.

1 Corinthians 15:3–4 gives a concise definition of the gospel:

“For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.”

Jesus physically rose from the dead.

The resurrection proves that the payment was accepted. It proves He is Lord. It proves death is defeated.

How Do You Receive the Gospel?

The gospel is not something you earn.

Ephesians 2:8–9 says:

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”

Grace means unearned favor.

You are saved by trusting in Jesus Christ alone.

Not by good deeds.
Not by church membership.
Not by religious rituals.
Not by trying harder.

Romans 10:9 says:

“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Faith means placing your trust fully in Him.

Repentance means turning from sin and turning toward Christ.

What the Gospel Is Not

The gospel is not “be a better person.”
It is not “God helps those who help themselves.”
It is not self-improvement.
It is not religion.

The gospel is this:

You could not save yourself.
Jesus did what you could not do.
He offers forgiveness freely.

What Happens When You Believe?

When someone truly believes:

Their sins are forgiven.
They are declared righteous before God.
They are adopted into God’s family.
They receive the Holy Spirit.
They are given eternal life.

Romans 8:1 says:

“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

That is freedom.

Why This Matters

Eternity is real.

Hebrews 9:27 says:

“It is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment.”

Every person will stand before God.

The question is not whether you are religious.

The question is whether you are in Christ.

The Gospel in One Sentence

The gospel is the good news that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died for sinners, rose again, and offers forgiveness and eternal life to all who repent and believe in Him.

That is the message the apostles preached.
That is the message that changes lives.
That is the hope of the world.

If you are searching, do not start with tradition.

Start with Jesus.

The good news is not complicated.

It is life.
